Environmental And Social Impacts And Management System

Construction is challenging, dangerous and brings many stressors that impact an individual’s health and safety. Furthermore, operating and maintaining a power plant brings further challenges as it is also a high-risk environment.

Redstone CSP recognises that without the involvement of people; constructing, operating, and maintaining this important power plant would not be possible.

Redstone believes that Zero Harm is possible and as such, we understand that the need to protect the health, safety, and well-being of our employees &contractors’ employees is first and foremost. To achieve our goals, we strive to foster a culture of health, safety, and well-being by ensuring all persons take both responsibility, and accountability for their own, and their fellow employees health & safety.Redstone CSP complies to local legal requirements in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993) and the Construction Regulations 2014, as well as all other applicable Acts, Regulations and Standards.

To ensure compliance to our local legal requirements during construction, Redstone employs a Professional Construction Health & Safety Agent to perform regular audits and inspections of our EPC and the construction site. Our lenders also perform regular audits to ensure that we are providing the best standard of Occupational Health & Safety to employees and contractors. In addition, Redstone CSP adheres to international best practices and compliance to the Owners Technical Specifications (OTS) in terms of additional Health & Safety requirements. Employees working at Redstone receive the necessary training to perform their jobs safely and undergo continuous awareness sessions to remind them of both their own and the sites responsibility to health and safety.

Employees of Redstone are further empowered through our “Stop Work” authority program, which allows any employee to stop work should they feel that their health and safety is at risk at any time.

During construction, the site employs full-time health services on site with the provision of a medical practitioner, OHS Nurse and paramedic team to ensure that our employees receive ongoing medical care as needed, as well as swift emergency care when needed.
